Our latest quilt, Estrella!

This quilt was conceived from Valori Well's fabric line, Estrella and designed and made by both of us. Estrella is Valori's latest fabric range and was inspired by the humble zinnia, a favourite with many Australian gardners. Sarah traced over the outline of the large flower on the feature print, enlarged it and then used it for her applique template. We chose to use this method, combined with machine applique, Pigma pen detailing and curved piecing. The project is being published in two parts. Part one is out now in Australian Quilters Companion (Vol 19). With all the details and pattern to get started, with all the final details in the following volume. (Vol 20). There is also a great article on Valori Wells called Fresh, New and Invigorating that appears in the magazine. Why don't you make Estrella your next project. This is a fun and challenging project.

For those Jennifer Sampou fans...

We have just received in the shop the latest fabric range from Jennifer Sampou called Colour Rythmn. Here is just a sample to wet your appetite. The range is priced at $26.50 per metre. Let us know if we can help with any questions or orders.

What an array... the variety of style and colour never seems to end - AND - many of these are the students first quilts! Don't they show the creativity and passion of these talented girls. All the quilts were designed in the classes, and most of the fabrics used are from our shop as well. Congratulations girls, and keep up the amazing work! Don't miss the Hunter's Hill Quilt Show 2006

Creative energies are bursting at the seams as the Hunters Hill Quilters prepare to stage their exhibition on 25 – 28th May 2006 at Hunters Hill Town Hall.

T
his recognized show traditionally exhibits over 100 handmade quilts as well as antique quilts with many for sale. The show opens with a catered event on the Thursday evening. The quilts are judged and awards are given out to the various members for their efforts. Each year the proceeds from the show are donated to charity.

This year the group is proud to announce that the chosen charity is Cure Cancer. Cure Cancer is an organisation independent of any hospital, research institute, university or government body. A board of leading specialists voluntarily reviews and selects the candidates for funding. Professor Martin Tattersall, Chairman of Cure Cancer Australia’s Medical Grants Advisory Committee, believes brilliant ideas occur before we are 40. The funds raised by the organisation go toward young brilliant minds chosen because of their demonstration to innovatively solve the riddles of cancer. The vision of Cure Cancer is simply to fulfil a vision of a world without cancer, nothing less.

The Hunters Hill Quilt group has grown considerably over the last 23 years from a small group of mothers to over 60 active members ranging in age from 30 to nearly 85. They meet each week to sew and chat. Many respected quilters in Australia have belonged to this group over the years and have contributed to the diverse nature of the quilts made by the members. During the weekly meetings the members work on personal projects as well as quilts that are donated to several organisations including: Westmead Children’s Hospital Burns Unit, Sydney City Mission, Stepping Stones House and more.

The 2006 Hunters Hill Quilt Show will commence Thursday, 25th May at 7:30pm at the Hunters Hill Town Hall. The opening night party is open to the public with a $20.00. There will be presentations of awards, drinks and homemade refreshments available. Doors open at 10:00am Friday 26th May till 4:30pm and the same on Saturday and Sunday the 28th. Entry fee is $6.00 and includes a descriptive catalogue. Seating and Devonshire Tea as well as delicious sandwiches are available for a small fee during the day.

Of special interest is the raffle quilt. Each member contributed an appliquéd block to the quilt and then once assembled each member has a turn quilting the quilt. It is called “Tickled Pink” and would certainly brighten any room with the soft pastel coloured flowers. Tickets are $2.00 each or three for $5.00 and can be purchased at the show or in advance by sending a S.S.A.E. to:

Patchwork and quilting as a craft is growing in popularity. The annual Quilt and Craft Fair at Darling Harbour draws nearly 50,000 interested viewers. The Hunters Hill Quilt Show 2006 will be an opportunity to view quilts and meet the quilters on an intimate level. There will be something at the show for all: quilt enthusiasts, admirers, beginning or advanced quilters.

Material Obsession and Jenny Burton’s collection of antique quilts and wares will both have shops set up throughout the weekend.

Alysoun Ryves, show organiser and founder of the group invites you to “Come along to the best little quilt show in Sydney!”

Amy Butler Sunbloom at home

The girls were so inspired by the Amy Butler Sunbloom upholstery fabric that Sarah had to re-cover some of her old furniture with it. Look at the results! And she is busy working away on a new quilt from Amy Butler fabric. Look out for it at the Hunters Hill Quilt Show in Sydney this May. Don't you just love the slippers!

And another customer's quilt...

Here is another customers quilt inspired by our pattern, Bubble Party. We will keep posting them as quilters bring them in. Even email them to us.
